GoCrossVideo Contest Results!

After much debate, wrangling, horse-trading and greased pig wrestling, the GoCrossCampus team is proud to announce the winner of the GoCrossVideoContest. Michael Rog from Rice University did by far the most exceptional job of projecting megalomania onto the screen:

(it helps to know that his team, Will Rice, is yellow)

Choosing the best video wasn’t simple. Ultimately, we wanted to pick an engaging video that could get a new player excited to play GoCrossCampus. Since it wasn’t an easy decision, we decided to pick some submissions to highlight as Honorable Mentions below:

The “Game Pride” Award goes to Matthew at Virginia Tech (via Cornell). Simple, subtle and well-done.

The “A Commander’s Life” Award goes to Ian at RPI. Sadly, I think this happened to a couple of my friends at Yale. They will be sorely missed.

The “Would Watch Over and Over Again” Award goes to Kurt at Yale. Hilarious, and even got some coverage in the blogoworld.

The “Most Intense” Award goes to Andrew at RPI. His video, clocking it at 11 minutes (unfortunately, only 10 of which can be uploaded to YouTube), gives an in-depth look at team dynamics that the ILC commanders will surely appreciate.

All entrants will receive GoCrossCampus t-shirts. Thanks to everyone who participated in the inaugural GoCrossVideoContest!

  1. Why was the Will Rice video even considered as as valid entry in the contest? the rules (which are still up on the RPI Game's screen) specifically state that "All entries are due by December 31st, 2007!" The Will Rice video was posted on January 10, 2008, a week and a half after the contest was officially over. This should effectively disqualify them from the contest. If the GXC Team decided to change its mind and still accept submissions after the declared due date, could they please explain why this change was made, without any anouncement to the other people on the site so that they could fairly compete as well. Alternatively, they could READ their original rules, and then pick a winner from the videos that were submitted on time.

  2. Hi Mitchell,

The Will Rice video WAS, in fact, submitted on time. The entrant contacted us before the deadline to let us know he was having technical difficulties, and could only submit the video via email as an AVI/MPG for the moment. We allowed the submission for this special circumstance, as long as he still uploaded it to YouTube as soon as the problem was resolved. Therefore, the video was eligible for judging along with the rest.

  3. Personally I am disappointed that the chosen winner had to steal copyrighted material like film from the movie 300. Considering the video itself violates YouTube rules, it doesn't seem right it should win the contest.

  7. That was rather stupid; the music video should have won, it was original, creative, clearly took a lot of hard work. Instead Sparta was chosen which was the handiwork of some video editing that could be done on windows movie maker. I've seen dozens of videos similar to this all over the place, but GXC had to choose something so unoriginal >.> very disappointing

  11. Hello this is kinda of off topic but I was wondering if blogs use WYSIWYG editors or if you
have to manually code with HTML. I'm starting a
blog soon but have no coding experience so I wanted to get advice from someone with experience.
Any help would be enormously appreciated!
